Learning and Development is a key priority at Horizon Healthcare Homes as we believe that our staff are our biggest asset and we want to give them every opportunity to flourish and thrive! Whether it’s developing and retaining knowledge and skills through our mandatory training package, completing nationally recognised qualifications, or achieving additional competence in areas of interest to take on one of our champion roles, we offer a wide range of opportunities for staff to engage in continued professional development.

As Learning and Development Manager I am extremely passionate about nurturing home grown talent and so our aspiring leadership development programme gives those with a passion to shine, a pathway to a career in management. The programme which takes place over a 12 month period, is a blend of off the job and on the job learning which gives the participants a real opportunity to develop both operational and behavioural leadership skills. This has been and continues to be, hugely successful, with many of those completing the programme securing leadership roles within our homes.

I take great pride in seeing the passion that our workforce demonstrate everyday to the people they are supporting. I believe it is therefore essential that our staff are given every available opportunity to continuously increase their knowledge, skills base and confidence to do their jobs to a standard of excellence. To ensure this happens at all levels within our workforce, our team leaders and new managers all complete training to enable them to be compassionate leaders who inspire and engage with their teams, as well as role modelling the values and positive behaviours which are central to the culture of Horizon Healthcare Homes.
